Can Pain be a simple concept?

It all begins with an idea.

Pain, its a very small word with 4 letters, yet it has many layers and very complicated. When you talk to a pain experts its never a simple topic, and its very different for each individual. If pain were truly a simple concept then there would not be so many people dealing with chronic pain.

First lets look at the definition in Websters definition: “a localized or generalized unpleasant bodily sensation or complex of sensations that causes mild to severe physical discomfort and emotional distress and typically results from bodily disorder (such as injury or disease”. I personally don’t like this definition since it does sound very negative. Ok so what if it is negative, pain is not a positive thing you may say. Yes true. But in my field, most people that will have some sort of pain, will have a pain for whatever reason and because of this definition, they are not afraid to move. Let’s say the low back, strained a muscle in their back, next thing you know that person lays in bed for a week, doesn’t move cause they are afraid to move. So now that person is in fight or flight mode when they think about moving. When someone is in fight or flight mode they stiffen up are in reflex mode, they are obviously not relaxed. I like to call this they are in a closed mode. Let’s go back to the person who hurt his back, not only

By the International Association for the Study of Pain (IASP), they revised the definition of pain to be, “An unpleasant sensory and emotional experience associated with actual or potential tissue damage, or described in terms of such damage.”

Don’t worry about sounding professional. Sound like you. There are over 1.5 billion websites out there, but your story is what’s going to separate this one from the rest. If you read the words back and don’t hear your own voice in your head, that’s a good sign you still have more work to do.

Be clear, be confident and don’t overthink it. The beauty of your story is that it’s going to continue to evolve and your site can evolve with it. Your goal should be to make it feel right for right now. Later will take care of itself. It always does.
